Art Notes:  "Believe it or not, I am a huge fan of The Little Mermaid. I honestly believe it is the film that sparked the renaissance in Disney animation coming out of the 1980's. While Beauty and the Beast may be the most purely romantic of the modern-day Disney classics and The Lion King the most powerfully dramatic, The Little Mermaid is clearly the most enjoyably enchanting of these films and certainly best captures the innocent nature of first love. Watching my four daughters all grow into young women I have been privy to the emotional peaks and valleys of young love. I understand King Triton's concern and desire to protect his youngest from a relationship facing so many obstacles. But, I also recognize the desperate love Ariel feels towards Prince Eric and the purity of her belief that their love can conquer all. Love is powerful, love is captivating and first love absolutely enchants!

The creation of “The Little Mermaid” much like “Tinker Bell and Peter Pan Fly to Neverland”, presented special technical and aesthetic challenges for me that were not present in most of my other Disney paintings. Thematically, this film deals with the clash between two worlds and how to best integrate them together. So it was with my painting. I had to bring the undersea world of Ariel’s childhood into peace with the land-bound life she so longed for with her beloved, Prince Eric. I felt the sea life at the bottom of the composition did this, allowing both parts of Ariel’s life, past and future, in all their regal and colorful glory. I truly hope the loyal fans of the film enjoy my narrative tale of The Little Mermaid. - Thomas Kinkade

Painting Description:  Thomas Kinkade Studios Limited Edition Paintings combine old world craftsmanship with the finest materials and latest production technologies to produce extraordinary canvas artwork.  The process captures not only the color and mood of the original painting, but the actual brushwork as well.  The image is reproduced on acid free, museum quality canvas with superior, long-life pigment inks, and then hand stretched on a hardwood frame.  Every piece is hand-retouched by skilled artisans, giving the painting a look almost identical to the artist's on-easel original.  Vibrant colors, rich textures and color tones accurate to the original brushstrokes are the hallmarks of your finished piece.  Each painting comes with a matching Certificate of Authenticity for your permanent records.  Made in the USA.

Edition Information:  There are five limited editions available: Standard Numbered (S/N), Gallery Proof (G/P), Artist Proof (A/P), Publisher Proof (P/P), Examination Proof, (E/P) and Estate Edition (E/E).  Some artworks, like this one, will aslo have an additional Atelier National (A/N) 40" x 60" edition.  The A/N level is known as the Epic or Monumental sized Canvas and it is perfect for an expansive wall space.  Each limited edition painting is created one at a time, after it is ordered, to ensure uniform color quality.  Once the number of paintings allocated to a specific size and edition are sold out there will be no more made with that same edition criteria.

  1. The S/N, A/P, P/P, and E/P level canvases are all hand highlighted and numbered, and they look identical when finished.  The only thing that changes per level is the number of copies assigned to each level. When the artwork is first released, the S/N Level is the most affordable option because it has the largest number of copies available.
  2. The G/P level is also hand highlighted and numbered and it looks identical to the other levels, except for the very small, unique gold foil Remarque stamped on the front of the image.  This remarque relates uniquely to the subject matter of the painting in some way and changes from painting to painting.  For instance on the Snow White painting the remarque was a gold apple.
  3. The A/N Edition is the designation for the 40" x 60" Monumental Sized painting.  Each Atelier National canvas is hand-highlighted and numbered similar to the other editions and is designated with the letters A/N.
  4. On the front of every Limited Edition Painting there is a small designation that records the edition purchased (S/N), and the exact number you purchased out of the total edition size (ex. 89/125).  The certificate of authenticity will also record this information.
Frame Description:  Thomas Kinkade Studios Limited Edition Painting Frames are works of art unto themselves. The frames are specifically hand crafted, using premium museum quality moldings, to accommodate and compliment Thomas Kinkade Studios Limited Edition Paintings.  Additional features include: an engraved brass nameplate; secure & removable canvas clips; and a high strength coated wire hanger.  Please note that your frame choice will add between 6 to 20 inches to the image size.  If space is tight consider one of the Petite Frames or frames without linen matting.

Estimated New Order Delivery:  Each Limited Edition Painting is made and hand highlighted after it is ordered, and depending on artwork demand there may be a line of orders in front of you.  Frame availability may also impact delivery times.  If your selected frame is out of stock at the time of the order we will contact you with an updated timeline for the selected frame and/or ask if you want to select a different frame that is currently in stock.  For these reasons, it can take about 3-4 weeks to make the item and ship it to you.  Call the Art Gallery at 252-453-2383, (between the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time), to find out which images and edition(s) we have in stock at our Art Gallery and/or to arrange for faster delivery options.

Estimated Delivery on the 18x27 GP:  Since the painting you purchased is a sold out canvas, the canvas is already made and master highlighted.  However, we will have to wait for the frame you chose to arrive and for the canvas to be placed in it.  Once this occurs, the completed product will be shipped to you.  For this reason it can take about 2-4 weeks, depending on frame availability, to ship it to you.  Call the Art Gallery at 252-453-2383 (from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time) if you have questions or need to speed up the delivery options.
