Abraham Hunter Biography

Abraham Hunter Biography

As early as I can remember I was busy drawing and coloring on anything I could get my hands on. Wildlife and history were my favorite subjects to draw, and I often blended the two subjects by having critters like squirrels and songbirds play the roles of the characters in the stories I would write and illustrate. I began painting when I was 12 with a watercolor paint set from Walmart. To help with family finances, I began to sell my art for $20 dollars a piece, going door to door where local restaurants and gift shops became my first “galleries.” I juggled high school and work, entering as many contests as I could in order to get my art out there.

At 14, Abraham began to hone his skills and pursue his artistic talent as a career. Being self-taught, it was hard at first since there are no wildlife artists in his home area nor did anyone else in his family have any artistic gifts. But by studying nature first hand, and using reference photos, Abraham was able to improve without any tutoring at all. Over the past 4 years. Abraham has been amazed at how much success he has managed to achieve. He attributes this success to his faith in God and the support of family and friends.2

"I try to paint or sketch every day, learning from masters before me and from my own experiences. In my art, I try to express my deep longing for a perfect world, full of peaceful homesteads, villages, and wildlife and I also love to paint images that express my faith."1

Abraham works in oil, acrylic and occasionally watercolor and strives for extreme photo-realism most of the time because he feels it properly honors God’s handiwork by showing all the intricate details. He often portrays somewhat “utopia” like scenes because he likes to imagine what it would have been like in the Garden of Eden and wants his viewers to have an encounter with a world lacking of death and turmoil. “I think we get far more fulfillment from that rather than the intense drama of life and death, predator and prey, which we struggle through here on earth.” If there is one thing I want to capture in my work and be able to share it with my collectors, it would be the abundance and beauty that I enjoy from a close relationship with Jesus Christ and an awe for His marvelous creation.2

“When someone looks at my paintings, I want them to feel as if they are right there witnessing first hand what the scene is depicting. I want them to feel the peace, comfort and joy that I experience when I’m studying the outdoors. I also want it to be a time for them to reflect on the beauty of God’s many blessings that seem to go mostly unnoticed in our busy world.” 2

Abraham and his wife Whitney, and their son live in Knoxville, Tennessee where they work, raise a family, and explore the mountains around them, with visits to the beach as often as they can. An award-winning artist with a Federal Jr. Duck Stamp win, and multiple wildlife conservation groups’ Art Print of the Year designations, young Abraham has a brilliant career ahead of him.1

"If my art can give someone peace, happiness, make them feel home and put a smile on their face, then my life’s work at my easel is worth it!"
